Diamond Care

As you may be aware, there is a bit more to diamond care than simply making sure they stay clean. Regardless of whether you are wearing them or storing them, you will need to take certain precautions. Chances are, you would be surprised at the number of things that can cause your diamonds to get lost or be destroyed.

While you are wearing or cleaning diamonds, you should never expose them to bleach. Unfortunately, bleach can corrode  metal to the point where the diamond's setting becomes loose. Even though you may not see signs of corrosion, prongs and other setting elements may become weakened. In some circumstances, even a tiny jolt can cause the diamond to fall out of its setting. Once that happens, it can easily be lost or destroyed.

When storing diamonds it is very important to make sure they are not in contact with other pieces of jewelry. Typically, no harm will come to the diamond itself. On the other hand, if the diamond rubs against other metals or stones, it will scratch them. Ideally, you should put each diamond in its own compartment, or make sure that it is wrapped up in something that will prevent it from scratching other nearby objects.

Even though you may wear gloves while doing housework or gardening, it will be to your advantage to take off anything you are wearing that may contain diamonds in it. At the very least, this will help prevent exposure to soil, solvents, and other things that will cause the diamond to lose its lustre. You should also diamond jewelry when applying creams or ointments. While you may not immediately see a loss of brightness in the diamond, eventually the oils will build up on it. Regardless of whether or not you know how to clean your jewelry, it is always best to keep it from getting soiled in the first place.

Once you become the owner of a diamond, you will need to take good care of it in order to enjoy it for years to come. In most cases, if you have a quality piece of jewelry, it can easily be passed down from generation to generation. This should encourage you to enjoy wearing your diamonds now, as well as make sure that they are in perfect condition when you want to give them to someone else. Without a question, when you own one of the most beautiful softens in the world, you will want to treasure it and make sure that it is always well maintained.
